Senator Feinstein and the myth of "green jobs"

I wrote a letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein in opposition to "Cap and Trade."

Not surprisingly, she wrote back and told me she was convinced that "climate change is happening" and that the bill will create "new green jobs."

Well, of course, the earth's climate is always changing! If Senator Feinstein would follow the science, rather than popular ideology, she might realize she'd been duped.

Green industries are important, for many reasons, but these politicians fail to admit how many traditional jobs we will LOSE and how much each American family will PAY when the government imposes heavy taxes on coal and oil and gas. Instead they send out these letters, obfuscating.

If we want energy independence, we need ALL forms of domestically produced energy, including nuclear (which seems to suit the governments of France and many other foreign nations) and additional oil, clean coal and natural gas production in our OWN country. Government needs to get out of the way and stop kowtowing to the extreme left-wing environmentalists who have strapped us to the Saudis by standing in the way of nuclear plants, Anwar and offshore drilling and new refineries.

I won't be voting for Senator Feinstein or Senator Boxer. Their ivory towers there in Washington are so tall, they can't see clearly any more.

The outrage continues.

Think you'll be able to keep your health insurance?

If you want the federal government running our health care system, just remember this: IRS –Hurricane Katrina – Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac. Not to mention the incredible waste and fraud that plagues the health care systems already run by the feds, Medicare, Medicaid and the VA. Under President Obama’s proposed new plan, small businesses would pay an 8% FINE if they offer no health insurance to employees. As one small business owner said recently, “I currently pay 15% of my payroll in health benefits. So I’d cancel that insurance in a heartbeat if it only cost me 8%.” In other words – GONE would be the comfortable policy his employees are used to – they’d be thrown on the government plan! The promise of “If you like the health care you have, you’ll be able to keep it” is an EMPTY promise. And a killer of small business, the engine that drives job growth in America The outrage continues.

The outrage of floating amendments at 3 AM

"The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them." -- Patrick Henry

Thus it is with the House of Representatives, a body that floats 300-page amendments to energy policy bills at 3 AM and insists on a vote at 10 AM, without even distributing those 300 pages to members of the House. Not only is the content being concealed from the citizens, under Nancy Pelosi's leadership, it's being concealed from the people's Representatives!

What kinds of parliamentary procedures are being forced down the throats of our legislators? Why should we bother paying these people and their staffs when they know no more than WE do about pending legislation?

The outrage continues.

Can I have a Marsh Mouse in MY back yard?

My husband and I were thinking about establishing a Marsh Mouse Habitat in our back yard. Maybe we, too, will then qualify to receive some "stimulus" money.

As you've no doubt read, some $16.1 million from the stimulus program is going to save the San Francisco Bay area habitat of the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse.

Now, habitat preservation is a noble cause, generally, but how is this stimulating the economy? What proportion of the billions of dollars so far appropriated for "stimulus" is going to small businesses, the jobs ENGINE of the USA? None! The vast majority of the money has been used by governments at the state, county and local level to SAVE GOVERNMENT jobs, instead of tightening their belts.

What happened to President Obama's solemn assertion that the "stimulus" would be spent “without waste, without inefficiency, without fraud”? In fact, what happened to his promises for transparency and for bills posted on the Internet for citizens to read? He has brought change to Washington, all right -- change for the worse! More waste, more secrecy, more payoffs to groups (can you spell A-C-O-R-N?) that helped sweep him into office.

Maybe we each need a "salt marsh harvest mouse" habitat in our backyards. That may be the only way we'll be able to support our families in this era of "hope and change."

The outrage continues. At every level of government.

City of LA pays $49,000 for Police box lunches!

OK, by now you know that the Michael Jackson memorial was ridiculously costly to the City of Los Angeles. Some $3.9 million for security and "support." What they were thinking?! The citizens of LA should DEMAND that these costs be reimbursed by Michael Jackson's promoters and inheritants.

It's interesting to look at the details. For example, part of the cost was nearly $49,000 in box lunches for the LA Police that day. They bought 3500 fancy box lunches that could have been purchased cheaper at Subway! Adding to the outrage -- the lunches were ordered from a business 80 miles away from the Staples Center! Come to think of it, whatever happened to people bringing their own lunch when they're on the job?

The outrage continues. At every level of government.
